With over 15.6 million variable star observations of over 5000 objects to its credit since 1911, the AAVSO
International Database is considered a variable star goldmine. Its riches are frequently harvested by
researchers, members, observers, and educators alike. As an impressive testament to the work and dedication
of thousands of obervers world wide for nearly a century, the AAVSO Headquarters fulfills 200-300 requests
for data annually. The AAVSO data are used extensively to correlate multi-wavelength observations of
variable stars, scheduling ground-based and satellite observations, and for analysis of stellar behavior. If
you are looking for variable star data for research purposes or simply to see what a particular variable is
doing at a given time, accessing the wealth of information contained within the AAVSO International Database
is free of charge via several channels.
Software for data entry, data analyis, and for predicting the dates of minima of eclipsing binary stars
is
also available.
Scientists: if you are planning to use AAVSO data in your research
please read this short letter from
the AAVSO's Director, Dr. Arne Henden.
